HOW IT WORKS
Give Your Ten is a fundraising campaign that depends upon the collective involvement of a community of people devoted to global educational access and opportunities. Our goal is to raise $10,000 in two months through a $10 donation from 1,000 people. For each person who donates, we are asking that she or he share about the project with 10 friends and family members asking that they too support this initiative by donating $10.
So, to break it down, the model of Give Your Ten is as follows:
- 1,000 people donate $10
- Each person who donates shares with 10 of his or her friends about the project
- We will raise $10,000 in 2 months to support the Loma Alta project!
Sure, it’s a little pyramid schemy, but, it’s definitely for a good cause.
$10 is an amount easily spent in our society. On movie tickets, a meal out, a few drinks. Reconsider how you could spend this amount in a meaningful way that has a tangible impact in another part of the world.
To participate in this project, simply donate $10 by clicking on this link to access our secure PayPal account. Then share about your giving through email, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter using one of the established templates provided at the bottom of this page. Tag 10 of your friends, and ask them to become involved as well!
Thank you for supporting Give Your Ten and the students of Loma Alta!
THE PROJECT: WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?
All funds raised through the Give Your Ten fundraising campaign will support the Loma Alta project. This project involves the construction of two additional classrooms in the K-12 school of Loma Alta, where inadequate space forces third year students to study on an outdoor patio. In this environment, students are subject to both extreme heat in the dry season and rain during the rainy season, which interrupts and and inhibits their quality of learning.
As Art for El Salvador, we firmly believe that all students are deserving of a safe and secure space to learn. This project will make that a reality for the children of the Loma Alta community.
Our organization formally committed to this project during our last delegation in July of 2017. We gave ourselves a two year timeline to raise the funds. This Give Your Ten fundraising campaign with a goal of $10,000 will not complete the funding, but it will keep us on track to reach our goal by the summer of 2019.
THE STORY BEHIND GIVE YOUR TEN
When we first met with the teachers and parent-leaders of the Loma Alta community, they were eager to partner. Immediately, they offered to provide all the labor for the construction of the additional classrooms. When asked about a financial contribution, the teachers were hesitant to commit. They knew that the extreme poverty suffered by most of the families in the community would render them unable to contribute financially.
We came back a year later and met with the same teachers and parents. They handed us $3,000.
A newly-formed parent organization had asked that each family that had a child attending the Loma Alta school give $10 towards the classroom project. Together they accomplished something they thought was impossible.
|Our ask is that, just like the parents of the Loma Alta students, you’ll consider donating $10 towards funding the school project and share the project with ten of your friends through email and social media. Alongside the parents of Loma Alta, we can fund the classrooms and show the students that they deserve an appropriate space to study and learn.|
